A Dallas family is demanding to fire a Dallas Police officer and charge him with murder. Tobias Arthur Mackey, a 25-year-old Dallas resident, was shot by Officer Matthew Tate, late Friday night at the Cedar Garden Apartments in the 3800 blocks of Bonnie view.
The family of Tobias Mackey, and Justice Seekers Texas, a civil rights and social justice organization, is calling for a federal investigation into the incident.
According to the officer Tate, Mackey did not listen to his verbal orders to show his hands as he approached him in a breezeway. According to the Dallas police, they didn’t find any weapon on Mackey.
Xavier Collins, an 11-year-old was wounded by the shots fired by Officer Tate. He was shot in the forearm.
According to the father of Tobias Mackey, Eric, he saw the whole incident in front of him, and he said that it is really hard to see your own get murdered in front of you.
Justice Seekers Texas is hoping for answers in what it calls an unjustified murder. The group is planning to have a meeting with Dallas Police Chief David Brown.
Officer Tate is on administrative leave right now, and Dallas Police Special Investigation Unit is investigating the shooting. After the completion of the investigation, Dallas Police will turn over their findings, as well as the medical examiner’s report, to the Dallas District Attorney for review. The Dallas County Medical Examiner has not yet released a cause of death.
