A group of 8 masked men were involved in an attempted ATM theft at a University Park Shell gas station. This occurred at about 3:30 this morning. The gas station is located on Lovers Lane near Dallas North Tollway.
The 8 men tried to attach a chain from a white Dodge Caravan to an automated teller machine inside the store, and then attempted to pull it out of the store. In this attempt, the chain they were using broke and the driver lost the control to the Caravan and hit a nearby dry cleaner. No one reported injured.
The burglars abandoned the van and left later in a gray Ford Crown Victoria. Police are reviewing the surveillance video of the burglary. The owner and manager of the station are in shock after this incident and said that they always believed that this was a really safe neighborhood.
